Kathmandu: The Legislation Management Committee has sought a report with recommendation from the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs to address to some extent the issues raised in connection with the Civil Criminal Code.
Today’s meeting of the parliamentary committee decided to seek the report following a consultation with the representatives of Law Ministry on the concerns voiced by Nepal Medical Association, Nepal Bar Association and Federation of Nepali Journalists regarding some provisions of the criminal code.
The ministry will submit the report to the parliamentary committee by Tuesday. The current unrest has emerged due to inability in genuinely perceiving the relations between one law to another, Ministry’s Joint-Secretary Ramesh Dhakal said, adding they however are flexible to take into consideration the issues that could better serve the objective and build positive attitude.
He further clarified that the provisions of the code, which was introduced as a special law, would not affect the subjects clearly enshrined in the main law.
Dhakal also hinted that the committee could add some paragraphs and points in course of legal amendments to the laws stating these would however not be applicable in terms of any works meant for public welfare.
Nepal Medical Association, Nepal Bar Association and Federation of Nepali Journalists have been on agitation calling for the amendment to some erroneous provisions of the criminal code.
